Reactionary Spanish fans have been blaming football presenter Sara Carbonero for their side's surprise defeat to Switzerland yesterday. The favourites slipped to be equal on odds with Brazil after an uninspired display throughout by the attackers in the final third (until, at least, Fernando Torres came on) during a game in which only Xabi Alonso came close to scoring. They are blaming the "sexiest journalist in the world" for one reason – she is Iker Casillas' girlfriend.

Only the Spanish team's over-confidence and tactical howlers on the part of del Bosque are to blame. The fans, however, have refused to buy this and are jumping to scapegoat Carbonero, who asked her boyfriend on live TV after the match, "how did you manage to muck it up?". The Spanish team typically have not been allowed to take WAGs with them to international tournaments, and for this reason fans all over the internet have suggested that Casillas' mind may be on "other things". The English team have, before this tournament, been allowed to take their wives and girlfriends with them, so clearly this ridiculous attitude stems from a lack of understanding that the players can cope having women nearby. To say that Casillas was "distracted" is a very backward attitude.
It comes down to only one thing, when the defence were caught off guard and couldn't cope who would you rather have in nets? A keeper used to playing behind a first-team back-line which cost almost €75 million to amass, or the goalie who remains on the bench despite co-winning the Premier League golden glove in a season where his club's defenders were beyond mediocre?
