The MLS international friendlies are now done and dusted, and though I haven't embraced them like an old friend, they have been fairly entertaining.
It was interesting to see New York Red Bull's two young American full-backs take on the multiple attacking threats of Barcelona. Marvell Wynne (pictured) and Todd Dunivant didn't disgrace themselves in difficult circumstances, though Barca did find some fair sized holes in the New York defence.
Wynne's strengths and weakness were summed up in the 17th or so minute. Samuel Eto'o got away from him down the left flank to receive a through ball, but Wynne showed impressive pace to make up some serious yardage and get a slide tackle in. Unfortunately, the ref gave a pen (which Ronaldinho converted) but with a bit of luck young Marvell could have gotten away with it.
Still, when Bruce Arena took his new team in at half time, they were drawing 1-1 with the champions of Europe, thanks to a Youri Djorkaeff tap-in. (Djorkaeff by the way, 1: was making his return from a controversial absence and 2: couldn't look more French if he tried).
Barca found a higher gear in the second half though, and romped home 4-1 with another goal from Ronaldinho, an all too easy body swerve and side-foot from Leo Messi and a goal from almost-forgotten-wonderkid-of-yesteryear Javier Saviola (someone take him on loan, quick).
