Robbie Fowler has rejoined Liverpool from Manchester City. The Toxteth born striker will sign on a free transfer until the end of the season, when the situation will be reviewed.
Fowler came through Liverpool's youth system and scored 170 goals in nine seasons before Gerard Houllier allowed him to leave Merseysie for Leeds in 2001.
Fowler will be pleased, Liverpool fans will be pleased and Benitez seems to think it's a good idea, but the reality is that Fowler is not the player he was. A string of injuries have diminished his pace, and there's been talk about him getting back in shape for what seems like years.
Maybe he'll prove to be a Scouse frank sinatra, and make a dazzling comeback after weary folk like me were happy to write him off, but first he'll have to win a place in Liverpool's first team.
To that end Djibril Cisse may have done Fowler a favour. He's in a spot of bother after being arrested earlier this week for an alleged assault on his wife Jude.
