Ex-England Bosses Discuss The Job

image: ourworld.com

There was an excellent Radio Five show titled "The Boss" broadcast recently, in which three ex-managers Graham Taylor, Terry Venables and Glenn Hoddle discuss all things Steve McLaren and England manager related. Click here to listen to the hour long show.

Highlight was a showdown between Hoddle and respected Telegraph journo Henry Winter. Winter referred to the events surrounding Hoddle's dismissal (when he claimed disabled people are paying for the horrible things they did in a former life) and Hoddle claimed to have said no such thing. You did, I didn't, you did, I didn't. He either did or didn't, but nothing was decided. Also, Graham Taylor made a semi-convincing argument that he didn't really mind The Sun turning his head into a turnip.

All 3 agreed that McLaren was the right man for the job, that you can't have enough experience for the job until you get the job (it's a bit like being a dad in that respect), that the transition between managers could be better (Hoddle had wanted to see Venables at work first hand before taking over) and that ex-England managers should be consulted by the FA about their experiences. Tellingly, none of the three ex-England managers had a good word to say about their former employer.
