David Beckham could be facing a paycut if he wants to stay at Real Madrid. Beckham's people are currently in negotiations over a new contract (his current one expires at the end of the season) but all is not going to plan.
When Madrid sporting director Predrag Mijatovic was asked if Beckham's salary would be increased he replied "Who said anything about paying him more? Maybe he will stay earning less."
There was more controversy when the club announced Beckham would be retiring after two more seasons, only for Beckham's people to refute that.
Beckham must be wondering what has happened since July 2006. In three short months he's lost the England captaincy, his England place, his Madrid place (to Reyes, which must hurt) and now Madrid are trying to shortchange him and retire him all at once.
Still, with that much money a paycut shouldn't even be an issue. If he really wants to stay and win something at Madrid (which he still hasn't) then he'll have to sign whatever they put in front of him.
