We all know there's more spin in a Premiership press statement than in a '70s Brazilian free-kick, but Spurs seem to have crossed over into good old fashioned lying. With Martin Jol's future looking very un-Tottenham despite thumping Derby 4-0 last weekend, Spurs executives were spotted meeting with Sevilla boss Juande Ramos.
Spurs say: "no individual was or has been offered the position of manager/coach at this club while that position has been held by Martin Jol."
Juande Ramos say: ""They made an excellent, dizzying offer, but I'm under contract to Sevilla and my decision is to fulfil it."
Hmm.
Seems to me Spurs have dug a massive hole for themselves. With Ramos' quote Jol now knows that they're looking to replace him. If I was him I'd walk. On the other hand Jol could easily turn Spurs' season around after a rough start to the season. And apparently, he's Spurs second best ever manager in terms of average points per game. But Spurs can't honestly claim to be giving their current manager full backing, because now we all know otherwise.
