Mega Tournament of Robot Soccer Kicks Off

The 14th edition of the RoboCup tournament for soccer kicked off in style in Istanbul. The annual tournament which has seen tremendous growth witnessed almost 500 teams from 40 countries in hot soccer action last year.
The aim of this cup is to create a robot team strong enough to beat the best human players of soccer by 2050.
In the competition participants have to innovate in robot building and they have to tackle the problems that might crop up while playing soccer. Vision and team game are the biggest concerns as the robots have to play as a team. No rough play like blocking or touching is allowed.
There is similar hardware for every team which is designed by Aldebaran Robotics who make humanoid robots. The challenge is in making the software to control their sensors, actuators and limbs in such a way so as to optimize their performance on the soccer field.
The tournament also hosts similar tournaments for small sized and medium sized robots. Off late even domestic chores and rescue operations in the tournament are done by robots.
