John Mackey, aged 69, a football legend from the Baltimore Colts passed away last Wednesday of dementia. This is a sad day in the annals of football. Mackey is credited with redefining the tight-end position. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1992 and was the players' union's first president after the merger of the NFL and the AFL. Ozzie Newsome, the current Baltimore Ravens' general manager stated that all of the benefits, such as the million dollar contracts given to football players; of today's football players have come from the foundation laid by John Mackey.
The football players' most famous catch was in the 1971 Super Bowl, when he grabbed a twice-tipped pass and sped 75 yards for a touchdown in the Colts' 16-13 victory over Dallas.
