A global journey…
England suffered yet another cruel loss in penalties in the women's world cup. The final penalty which was missed by Faye White was a poor end to the match which was in France's favor the entire time.
The England team got knocked out and France will now progress to the Semi finals of the world cup. The England team was reduced to 10 players with Kelly Smith unfit to play and all their substitutions used up. They defended desperately against a French onslaught which lasted the entire extra time before taking it to the penalties.
This is the third time that England has been in the world cup last eight and they have never gone beyond that. The progress of England has been slightly haphazard this world cup with a draw against Mexico and then two contrasting wins against New Zealand and Japan.
The only bright point for England in the match was the first goal at the hour mark by Jill Scott. There was sustained pressure by the Les Bleus through the match and the England defense finally gave through in the 88th minute to give an equalizer. The loss in the penalties dashed all hopes of England in the world cup.
