Why Did He Do It?

After an action packed World Cup final, there is only one question. What did Marco Materazzi say to Zinedine Zidane that caused the great man to headbutt him in the chest?

This was meant to be "Zidane's Final", nocturnal visitation and all, so Materazzi must have said something pretty low to get such a reaction. Zidane still hasn't spoken publicly about the incident, and I wouldn't bet on him revealing all any time soon.

French coach Raymond Domenech was livid with Materazzi, saying "I don't know what Materazzi said to Zidane. All I know is that the man of the match was not Andrea Pirlo but Marco Materazzi because he scored the equaliser and had Zidane sent off. It is a pity. He really put on a great show when he went down and we know how these things work."

Former French coach (and World Cup winner) Aime Jacquet had a more pragmatic take. "I think the entire French side, and perhaps the Italians, were at the very edge of their mental and physical limits," he said. "Sadly, Zizou is prone to react and he could not control himself. It is terrible to see because he really lifted this World Cup with his performances."

In other news, Italy are world champions.
