When Squad Rotation Works

Lots of debate around Rafa Benitez and his squad rotation system at Liverpool lately. Is squad rotation a good thing? Is it madness? Wasn't it what did Claudio Ranieri in at Chelsea?
But here's the final word: Squad rotation only works if you're winning.
WAIT! Before you click that x in the top right corner, that isn't an empty platitude (like "you only win if you score the most goals"). What I mean is that rotation should only be used after you've established a winning run.
When a team's flying, rotation is great. Remember the way Alex Ferguson rotated that great Man United team in the late 90s? Nicky Butt coming in for a game here or there, and they just kept winning.
But when a team is struggling for form - like Liverpool are right now - they need to pick the strongest XI, stick with it for a few games, win with it for a few games, and then rotate.
