Video: Jesse Marsch Tries To Slice Becks In Half
Filed in archive US Soccer by daryl on August 24, 2007
Becks played 90 minutes for Galaxy against Chivas, and lost 3-0. His boss Frank Yallop didn't want to play Goldenballs, which is understandable after the guy and his twisty ankle had played for England the day before and then crossed the Atlantic and the entirety of the USA. But apparently he didn't have a choice, what with Becks being the big draw and all.
To make things worse, Chivas' Jesse Marsch let Becks know he was in a local derby with this unbelievably bad tackle (above.) It's not just late and from behind, it's above the waist. So credit Marsch for his acrobatic athleticism if not his ethics, and credit Beckham for reacting but not over-reacting. It's a definite sign of maturity to be able to square up to someone who's just tried to chop you in half without actually headbutting them. Unlike Cristiano Ronaldo last week.
