USA fans are understandably unhappy about the second rate bunch of kids that were sent to compete the Copa America. I can appreciate the difficulties of playing straight after the Gold Cup, but surely a bit of forethought would have allowed two slightly more balanced rosters? For example, guys like Donovan could have skipped the early rounds of the Gold Cup and only played in the bigger games towards the end. And surely a few more Euro players could have been persuaded to stay on? Especially guys like Clint Dempsey who haven't played all that much recently?
Worse, CONMEBOL are unhappy about the roster the US sent, which could jeopardize the chances of the US being invited back to the Copa, which if taken seriously should be the second most important tournament the US could enter. I can't wait for the day when the US send a full strength team and make a serious effort to go as far as possible, instead of posting plucky losses to better teams like some sort of international Watford FC.

The US will never have a “full strength team” able to compete because you are simply so RUBBISH at the world’s favourite game.

Was it not once said by Alan Hansen that “you’ll never win anything with kids” in reference to a young Manchester United side that soon went on to win a number of Premier League titles, the FA Cup on numerous occasions, and the European Cup (Champions League)?
Better that the young players learn to play together rather than be thrown in at the deep end…give it time and they will come good.

Whoa, whoa, whoa… those ‘kids’ from Man U included legends Eric Cantona and Roy Keane. Without those two ‘old men’ they would have won nothing. Not to mention Denis Irwin, Gary Pallister, and Peter Schmeichel, to name a few others. Talent wins nothing alone, without experience and intelligence you don’t have a chance.
