Uefa to apologise to Celtic? Yeh, right.

As the Champions League competition reaches the fascinating quarter final stage starting tonight another story from a previous round has almost gone unnoticed.
UEFA have dropped their investigation into the alleged sectarian/racist chanting by Celtic fans at the Camp Nou in Barcelona. The news that the investigation was taking place was made very public by UEFA but the news that they have found that Celtic have 'no case to answer' has been less well publicised.
Celtic's reaction to the outcome of the 'investigation' is exactly as you would expect. Their spokesperson said, "Celtic and its supporters enjoy a unique relationship with FC Barcelona. Our recent visit to the city was very well received once again by the club, the people of the city and the Catalan
police. Indeed, the conduct of our fans was also applauded by Uefa." The only comment coming out of UEFA at the end of this matter was, "We've had a look into that, but no disciplinary case will be opened. There was not enough evidence."
I find this amazing. Why was the initial incident ever made public? If there was not enough evidence then I suggest it didn't happen. The whole game and the crowd were filmed and recorded from every possible angle. The Celtic fans will have been surrounded by hundreds of Spanish police officers and there will have been approximately seventy-five thousand witnesses. If the investigation couldn't establish what happened then either UEFA are incompetent or the sectarian chanting never happened.
Sectarian or racist chanting and singing must be stamped out by the administrators of the game. Of that there is no doubt. However, to raise the issue in such a high profile game such as this one and then admit that they could find no evidence is totally damaging to all the worthwhile campaigns to rid the game of this ill.
Simple advice to UEFA. Look into things before you make them public.
Celtic and Scottish supporters in general, have a great reputation around Europe and it has been tarnished by this investigation. I think at the very least Celtic deserve an apology, but I don't suppose for a second that they'll get one.
