South Africa to Use World Cup 2010 to Change World View of Africa

Soccernews.com reports that the head of South African 2010 World Cup, Danny Jordaan, said he wants to "transform people's world view of Africa through the staging of a successful tournament."

Africa has never staged a tournament, and will be jumping at the opportunity to put the "whole continent in general on the map"

Jordaan is looking to press for democracy, increase employment, tourism and infrastructure while increasing it's stature in the world of sports.

I wish Africa all the best of luck. I think it will be a boost for tourism and economy, although it\’s only once.

I think South Africa has the best reputation of all African countries. So it\’s a pity the WC will not be played in other African countries.

Well, they have their work cut out for them because South Africa is one of the most crime-ridden countries in the continent. I have just had my debit card “cloned” in the city of Nelspruit and more that US$3,000 stolen from my account. Same thing has happened to many people I know. The worst place for that is Johannesburg airport. Soccer Cup visitors to South Africa beware.

The Vuvuzela is an annoying plastic trumpet also known as a stadium horn that is constantly blown at all soccer/football matches in South Africa. It sounds like a deafening mix of angry elephants trumpeting, a swarm of buzzing bees and a fog horn. What can we do? Go to http://www.banvuvuzela.com/ Register with your name, country and email and then vote. Tell your friends and family to do so too. It is our intention to submit these votes to the relevant authorities who can do something about it. Together we can make our 2010 World Cup the best experience for all.

I hope South Africans could prove to the whole world that they are capable of hosting the greatest sporting event in the world. Can’t wait for World Cup 2010.
