In the entire football world Newcastle United probably has the longest list of players who deserve to be shown the door. A combination of mis-spent millions and mis-matched personalities, the following players should be handed their coats.
- Jean-Alain Boumsong: Cost £8 million but the next manager will hope Graeme Souness kept the receipt.
- Titus Bramble: Has at least moved beyond ridicule and into pity.
- Lee Bowyer: Troublemakers start fist fights with team mates, but only mentalists do it during a game.
- Kieron Dyer: Helped end Sir Bobby Robson's time at St. James' by complaining about where he was being played. when you're as injury prone as Kieron you should be grateful to play at all.
- Nicky Butt: Pele's favourite player at World Cup 2002 (no, really) couldn't earn a starting spot at Man. Utd., which was understandable at the time. Then he wasn't good enough to start for an average Newcastle side, which was worrying. Then he was below the standard required at Birmingham City. Where did it all go wrong?
- Albert Luque: Expensive, injury-prone and lazy. The ultimate Newcastle signing.

Can’t really argue with the rest, but Dyer’s attitude has improved over the past year and, when fit, he is an asset to the team.
The signings of Luque and Boumsong tell you everything about Souness’ managerial qualities – if we get half of that money back i’ll be amazed.

I agree with them all, except Dyer, but think you should also add a couple more – we need to make a substantial and fundemental clear out of players who aren’t good enough:
Ameobi – inconsistent, talks a great game but has never displayed the passion he speaks of
Elliot – wasn’t good enough for us when we let him go back in 97 and he hasn’t got any better
Chopra – if nothing else, jsut for the lads sake to get himself some regular footie
And, oh – we MUST keep Milner – he shows passion, intelligence and plays REAL football

So Lee Dixon thinks Drogba saying he dives sometimes was a language problem.
But for that to work, we have to have an idea what he might have understood by the question. Do you fall????? It doesn’t make sense.
It’s hard to see how it was just a misunderstanding / mistranslation.
Here’s another interpretation: one might argue he was showing a peculiar supercilious disdain for the whole massive cash-cow that’s turned him into a rich superstar.
Perhaps he’s been reading too much Camus.

I actually have a fair amount of sympathy for Dyer, and completely understand those who defend him. It must be really frustrating to be hampered by so many injuries.
Though it might not be Dyer’s fault, but I get the feeling that Newcastle and England will spend eternity waiting for him to deliver on his potential.

Agree with the others, but Dyer in shape, is the best midfielder in the PL.. His attitude has improved..

Few points on this one. First Dyer is going nowhere even if he does deserve it. The lad is signed up on a £20 million pound five year deal paid out at £80,000 per week. By my reckoning the only way he can go is if he is made a similar offer elsewhere. As is obvious to a blind man no one will pay that kind of dosh for the boy. Result going nowhere. Second, Luque, Boumsong are both on four year contracts worth at least £20 million between them. Result see Dyer above. My advice is don’t waste your time wishing for something that is unlikely to happen. There will be a new manager in place soon so let’s see what he wants to do with this problem based on what he can achieve with these players.

Do you really think that after a season of devastating injuries when we have been forced to play almost every player in the squad at one time or another, that reducing the squad size by 6 players is the way to go? Seriously just think for a minute, how many players of quality would we need to buy to improve our squad if we did? 8? 9? Wake up mate!

Those who pointed out that
1) Many of those players are on long term deals with huge wages
and
2) The squad isn’t big enough to be letting people go
are absolutely right. Just to make clear, I’m not seriously expecting that all these players will be leaving.
There’s a good argument for keeping someone like Bramble, as he wouldn’t fetch much in the market and is worth having around as a squad member.
So, if Newcastle fans could only get rid of one of these players, taking into account their market value, who would it be???

Why only six players?
