Sergio Aguero Joins Atletico Madrid

Sergio Aguero has joined Atletico Madrid from Indendiente for a transfer fee of around $23 million. Bayern Munich had been expected to take the 18 year old Argentenian superstar in waiting as a Michael Ballack replacement, but they failed to make a firm offer.

Atletico is a great move for Aguero, probably much better for him than Bayern. There will be no language barrier to deal with, and while there will be expectations placed on him as a player, at least he will not be expected to match the success Bayern consistently enjoy in the Bundesliga. By joining a big, but underperforming team Aguero can be part of their expected upturn in fortunes. They recently appointed the highly respected Javier Aguirre as Head coach.
