A global journey…

Source: FIFA

FIFA set the seedings for next year's World Cup today in Leipzig, and they set the table for an interesting tournament.

And they are:
Pool one: Germany, Brazil, England, Argentina, Mexico, Italy, Spain, France.

Pool two: Australia, Angola, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Togo, Tunisia, Ecuador, Paraguay.

Pool three: Croatia, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine.

Pool four: Iran, Japan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Costa Rica, Trinidad & Tobago, United States.

Special pot: Serbia & Montenegro.

Brazil made in it at its usual top seeding based on performances in the past two World Cups as well as other internationals. England surprised at second, and the US missed out on a top seeding by one point behind Italy and Argentina. The Dutch however fall into the next group and will have to face a top seed, creating a veritable Group of Death for two unlucky Asian and African sides most likely. Teams from the same region will not be allowded to play one another in the first round.

More excitement comes Friday when the actual groups are drawn. Who would you like to see drawn together? Comment below.

It will be tightly contested next year. For me the Brazil, Croatia, Australia & Japan Group will be fantastic, I’m an Aussie Croatian. Should be great!
