Roy Keane vs Mick McCarthy Round Two
Filed in archive Managers by daryl on August 24, 2006

Word on the street (and by street, I mean Google News) is that Roy Keane will be named as the new Sunderland boss any day now. Niall Quinn halved his job description from chairman/manager to chairman and seems to have persuaded fellow Irishman keane
to take his first managerial stomps steps at the Stadium of Light.
A few things spring to mind:
Keane is either going to be a fantastic manager, or an absolute disaster. There's no doubting his will to win, but he also has a savage side. Ask Alf Inge Haaland. He might even be a bit mental, it's hard to tell.
Then there's Mick McCarthy. In 2002 Keane was sent home from Ireland's World Cup 2002 squad after giving then manager McCarthy an ear full of this:
"Who the f**k do you think you are having a meeting about me? You were a crap player and you are a crap manager. The only reason I have any dealings with you is that somehow you are the manager of my country, and you're not even Irish you English c**t. You can stick it up you're b******s."
Keane will get to meet his nemesis head-on (assuming he takes the job) when Sunderland face McCarthy's Wolves at Molineux on Saturday 25th Novemeber this year. Mark your diaries people.
Two things I learned while doing a spot of research for this little blog entry:
- Roy Keane's middle name is Maurice.
- Sunderland were the last English league champions to wear stripes.
