Seven players are keeping World Cup weblogs for MSN. The seven players keeping blogs are: Michael Owen (pictured), Ronaldinho, Kevin Kuranyi, Xabi Alonso, Gianluigi Buffon, Claude Makelele and Edgar Davids.

Sounds interesting, and you'd fancy their chances as a five-a-side team, but it's not such fascinating reading. It's pretty much a collection of generic footballer talk.

Owen tells us "there is always one Group of Death" at the World Cup, Makelele philosophises that "there are few more important things in a footballer's life than his profession", while Alonso somewhat awkwardly tells us "Liverpool is club that's steeped in history." Well, it is his second language I suppose.

These blogs will get interesting when something dramatic happens. For example, what if one of them doesn't make their countries World Cup squad? Most of them are dead certs (MSN think so anyway) but with Holland coach Marco Van Basten putting form ahead of Fame I wouldn't bet against Edgar Davids having this summer free.
