Seems I wasn't alone in my little rant about espn's coverage of the USA v Poland game last week. There's an on-line petition encouraging ESPN to give soccer fans proper soccer commentators for the World Cup.
It's an intelligent, balanced and well-written petition and has nearly 2,000 signatures after being on-line for only 3 days. Go and add your name if you never want to hear the phrases "well defensed", "goal tender" or "red zone" again.

I agree that coverage must be better and that commentators should at least be familiar with the terminology as well as the rules. I get really tired at disposessed and other inane vocabulary that has absolutely nothing to do with soccer. The talkovers are being done while viewing the same screen as we see so the perception bu the commentators is just as inaccurate as our own and making inane comments as to what a player should have done and the comments on obvious fouls and or dives get laughs from my six year old granddaughter.
Get with it, this is a TRUE world sport and it is OUR NATIONAL team playing out there not a group of Americans playin a group of americans and calling it a world championship??????
Don’t get me wrong I enjoy Baseball, basketball as well as American football but the coverage of the worlds game, a game where you do not have to be a freak to participate competitively is largely ignored. These guys are TRUE athletes who ply their game for 90 minutes as a killing pace and excepting perhaps for basketball no american game comes close to the athleticism these guys exhibit during a game.
Yeah for Soccer, Fussball, Footbal, Futbol, futebol ad infinitum

ESPN have the worst football commentators and coverage on earth of the great game. It’s not just the World Cup. Here in Australia ESPN have the rights to the European Champions League and the English FA Cup. And how they ruin both coverages !!
I don’t mind Derek Rae and one other English commentator they have but I wouldn’t pay the rest of them.Tommy Smyth has no idea and Janusz Mihallek is the most boring co commentator of ALL TIME. Neither of those guys even had careers playing the game of ANY note whatsoever. And I swear they must call these “live ” games from a studio the atmosphere from the ground is so muffled.
So I beg Rupert Murdoch to get the game back from ESPN and get the great coverage we have here on Fox Sports for ALL the great leagues and tournaments.
ESPN should stick to what they can actually do well. American sports.
