A global journey…

I have a lot of time for Jose Mourinho. He's achieved impossible tasks (who else could win the Champions League with Porto?) and has given the English Premiership a much needed shake up. But, just like Gary Neville (see below) he should start taking responsibility for his actions.

Following Chelsea's controversial clash with Barcelona last year his comments led to referee Anders Frisk's early retirement. This year the teams were drawn against each other again and Mourinho has tried the same trick. His comments following Asier Del Horno's (deserved) sending off have led to referee Terje Hauge receiving death threats on a Chelsea fans message board.

I understand that Mourinho will do everything within his power to gain an advantage for his team, and in last years game againts Barcelona it seemed to pay off. But outbursts like this are surely subject to the law of diminishing returns. Like the boy who cried wolf, the more often he does it, the less convincing it is.

“Del Horno’s deserved sending off”? Are you blind as well as stupid?

Del Horno hacked away at Messi for a good half hour and then tried to finish him off with what looked like Chun Li’s Spinning Bird Kick. It was dangerous in Streetfighter II and it’s dangerous in the Champion’s League. Most people unconnected with Chelsea could see this. As your email address begins ‘chelsea.steve’ I’m guessing you’re not one of them.

    Re Del Horno’s sending off – blindness/stupidity?

There’s a limited (note: LIMITED) case to be made regarding the tackle for which Del Horno made on Messi deserving a yellow card rather than a red.

However he had just minutes earlier escaped what should have been a booking, so that’s a tally of what should have been two yellows.

In addition, his ‘theatrics’ quite possibly deserved another yellow…

I’d be interested to see what Chelsea fans state what they think should a be case for Del Horno staying on the field rather than just coming out with a load of abuse.
