Premier League 2008-09
by Graham Fisher on August 31, 2008

I wrote on here on Friday that Shaun Wright-Phillips was back where he belongs. Most people felt that his move back to Manchester City was a good move for all concerned. Not many would have predicted that he would score two goals in his first game, a 3-0 win at Sunderland.
The look of joy on his face after both goals portrayed all of his feelings of happiness and relief. It also gave everyone some idea of the frustration he has been feeling over his three years at Chelsea.
Wright-Phillips has been very gracious in what he has said about his time at Chelsea and the club itself, but he cannot possibly look back at his time there with much pleasure.
The new lease of life he may well find back at his old club will be too late to get a call up for Fabio Capello's squad for the qualifiers in Albania and Croatia. However, David Beckham and/or David Bentley will have to produce the goods in those games as I feel sure Wright-Phillips will be fighting them for their place by the time the next set of internationals arrive.
He was a fine player in his last spell at City and he didn't become a bad player at Stamford Bridge. The fine player might return quicker than anyone thought.
