Jürgen Klinsmann is quitting while he's ahead, declining the DFB's offer to continue coaching Germany. He started the World Cup with expectations for his German team the only thing lower than his popularity, but a semi-final run later - complete with a never before seen brand of attacking German football (plus one iron willed penalty shoot-out win for old times sake) - and "Klinsmania" has swept the nation
But Klinsmann is heading off into his cherished Southern California sunset. "After these two years preparing for the World Cup and with the tournament itself, I have spent so much energy that I don't feel capable at the moment of continuing to give the same level,'' he said. ''I feel worn out and plan a six-month holiday in which I won't be taking anything else on."
By sheer co-incidence (ahem) Bruce Arena's contract as US national team coach expires in about six months time.
Meanwhile, Klinsmann will be succeeded by his former assistant manager Joachim Löw. For more on this (if you sprechen Deutsch
