Transfer rumours
by Stephen Lunn on November 18, 2009
With the international break over and the Leagues ready to embark upon their run in to the January transfer window, the rumours continue to hot up. Atletico Madrid’s 21 year old Sergio Aguero could be heading to Chelsea now that their transfer ban has been overturned, a move that will see the Spanish side receive, what is currently believed to be, around £40 million, while AC Milan’s needlessly violent bulldog Gennaro Gattuso has apparently made mention of a move to England, specifically Manchester City.
Aguero may be a long term replacement for Carlos Tevez who, at only 25 years old, has revealed that he would seriously consider retiring if Argentina were to win the Wrold Cup next year in South Africa. But while some clubs, untouched by the recession, have the luxury of planning long-term there are many who must trim their wages if they are to survive. After Liverpool’s Rafa Benitez told us that he would resign if forced to sell star striker Fernando Torres we hear that he must sell some of the fringe players from the first team, those who have been told they would feature in the world cup for their countries with more first team football. Ryan Babel finally pledged his career to Liverpool but it may now be beyond his control, while Voronin, a popular goal scorer in Germany who hasn’t hit it off in England, is being courted by more than one in the Bundesliga. Dossena and Degen may too go back to their home countries in a move that would promise no extra spending money for Benitez, while his team, would be severely depleted.

Spurs look set to sell unsettled winger David Bentley to Man City in a move that could finally fund the move of Huntelaar from AC Milan, though we must question just how many strikers Harry Redknapp really needs. Robinho may head to Barcelona on loan for a trial six months with the Spanish giants, where we would expect him to play much better than he has in England, although captain Carles Puyol has commented that he is not needed at a club which has Theirry Henry and Lionel Messi.
