Is Anfield A Goalkeeper Graveyard?

Something Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez said this week got me thinking. When asked about Jose "Pepe" Reina's poor form, Benitez replied "When you have a good goalkeeper, you must support him. Two years ago we backed Jerzy and Kirkland, and now we support Pepe."

That would be the Jerzy Dudek you ditched after he won you the European Cup? And the Chris Kirkland who has twice been exiled, first to West Brom and now to Wigan? Not to mention Scott Carson, currently making like a library book at Charlton Athletic.

Add that to the harsh treatment both Sander Westerweld and David James received from Gerard Houllier and Anfield isn't looking like the wisest destination for a keeper.

Reina's probably better between the pipes than any of the guys mentioned above, and deserves to keep the Liverpool no.1 jersey, but if I was him I'd be looking over my shoulder in January, just in case...
