The interesting thing about US midfielder Clint Dempsey is that he takes his rapping pretty seriously. This isn't like John Barnes in the 'World In Motion' video, this is something he really wanted to do.
In fact the other guy in the video, John "Big hawk" Hawkins, was an artist Dempsey admired, and the two became friends after making the video. Unfortunately, Hawkins was killed this month.
It's easy to laugh at soccer players messing about with music, but 'Don't Tread On This' was a serious effort to promote soccer and an attempt to remove the 'spoilt rich kid' stigma the sport has in America.
