After watching his Manchester City side demolish Portsmouth 6-0 yesterday with a devastating display of fast attacking football, boss Mark Hughes said his side had 'set a standard'.
He said, "We saw the right pass at the right time on many occasions. We have set a standard for ourselves. It was a perfect day."
What he says is true because it really was the 'perfect day' for City, but I think he should be careful about setting that performance as 'the standard'!
Jo, Wright-Phillips, Robinho, Elano and all the others were quite superb. They would have frightened any defence in the world, but to expect them to perform like that week in and week out is unrealistic. When the cold weather and the rain come, it will all be a lot harder for the these players to produce the same sort of brilliance.
I hope they continue for as long as possible because it was a joy to watch for everyone other than Pompey fans.
If they do produce that sort of performance every week then we finally have a team capable of breaking into the top four. Remember, that's without the extra five hundred billion pounds coming into the club tomorrow.
Exciting times at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Although there is no doubting the brilliance of Robinho, I think Wright-Phllips is going to be the best Man City player this season, he’ll give his all no matter how cold or wet it is.
I think the fact that Robinho and Jo play for the same National team will and has so far helped as they link up really well.
Good to see Dunne score too yesterday, underrated and one of the better defenders in the Premier League on his day!
