Bolton provide the test for Arsenal

Since Arsenal's defeat at Stamford Bridge last week there has been much talk of a crisis at the club. People have been asking, "where has it all gone wrong?"

Against this background and with news that they have now lost their influential full back Sagna for at least three weeks what game would Arsenal least like to have this weekend? I'd say a trip to the Reebok to take on Bolton would come pretty high up the list, and that is exactly what they've got to do.

Arsenal have never enjoyed trips to Bolton and they have suffered some surprising defeats at the ground. The style of play Bolton adopt is the very one that Arsene Wenger detests about English football and he doesn't seem to be able to cope with it.

Gary Megson will have been watching events at The Emirates this past week or so and I have absolutely no doubt as to what his instructions to his players will be before they run out on Saturday. One thing is for sure. Don't expect Bolton to be soft or pretty!

Kevin Davies, the excellent Bolton front man, has committed more fouls than any other player in the Premiership this season. (He is the most fouled, too.) I fully expect him to increase that lead considerably on Saturday as he tries to unsettle and intimidate the Arsenal backline that has suddenly begun to look shaky and lacking in confidence.

In my opinion it is far too early to talk about a crisis at Arsenal or to write them off in the two competitions in which they remain. They are in the quarter finals of the Champions League and only sit six points off the top of the Premiership. That is not a bad position for any team to be in but the expectations on this young team may have just proved to be too much.

We'll learn a lot about the character of Arsene Wenger's side tomorrow. Will they bounce back from last week's disappointment? Will they manage to stop the rot in terms of a disappointing run of results? Will they be able to stand up to Bolton's physical challenge?

It'll be interesting that's for sure. We'll know so much more about the team from The Emirates come 5.00 pm tomorrow afternoon.
