Beckham Steps Down With Perfect Timing

Beckham's decision to (very tearfully) step down as England captain showed a lot of class. It saves Steve McLaren from making an impossible decision (embarrass Becks in public or keep him on as captain, both horrible choices) and will also give the impression of a new era beginning, which may have been a problem with McLaren succeeding Sven.
