It's tempting to think McLaren ditched Beckham purely to distance himself from the soon to be distant memory that is Sven. But there's enough evidence to support McLaren's claim that he's "planning for the future."
The spotlight has understandably gravitated towards Beckham's exclusion, but McLaren has also done away with two other over 30's. Portsmouth's Sol Campbell (that still doesn't sound right does it?) and soon to be Portsmouth's David James were left out, presumably signalling an end to their international careers too.
Who knew Second Choice Steve could be so ruthless?

David Beckham was certainly not the only victim. David James is also a good example
