david beckham was benched by Real Madrid for their 0-0 draw with Betis. New boss Juan Ramon Lopez Caro preferred Cicinho to play wide right, and the Brazilian put in an impressive performance. It's nothing for Beckham to panic about, not yet anyway, and it will hopefully be a well timed wake up call for the England captain.
Lopez Caro's move puts a definite end to the 'galactico' policy. A guaranteed spot in the first eleven removes the cutting edge while demotivating those hopelessly trying to force their way into the starting line up. Just ask Michael Owen.

Benching the world's greatest midfielder is a joke. Players like Zidane, Van Nistleroy and Beckham would fit well with any premier team. The main problem is the reliance on Brazilians. Robinho and Renaldo are poor finishers and don't have Van Nistleroy's ability to hang around the box in a competent manner. Brazilians lack that hungry wolf-like attitude. Too much finesse, not enough resolve. Real Madrid has trouble with moving the ball up, also. Backs should punish. Midfielders should be English. Forwards should be a mix of all styles. Want to see a 0-0 tie. Put Liverpool vs Real madrid
