After casting doubts over his loyalties last month, Freddy Adu has reaffirmed his desire to play for the USA. Seems his comments about still being able to play for Ghana were an attempt to keep his options open, should the US overlook him.
"You never know," Adu said. "It's not a guarantee. Maybe a new [U.S] coach will come in who doesn't like my style of play. It doesn't fit in his plans, and what am I going to do? You don't want to burn bridges by shutting down Ghana, and then when you don't get a chance to play for the United States, you really have no national team. I don't want that to happen."
With the form Adu is currently in, it seems inevitable that the next US coach (whether it's Jurgen Klinsmann or someone else) will give him his chance. As this article notes, Adu has now settled in nicely at DC United. By working on the defensive side of his game, specifically positioning, he's earned a starting spot on a team that's head and shoulders above other MLS teams right now.
