Adebayor, Drogba, Sissoko, LuaLua: Africans Dominate The Premiership Weekend
Filed in archive Premiership 2006/7 by daryl on September 18, 2006
Remember when African players in the Premiership meant guys like Daniel Amokachi? Everton's Nigerian forward (1994-96) was decent on his day, but never a world beater. Ten years later things have changed, with this weekends action being dominated by African players.
Emmanuel Adebayor (Togo, pictured) decided the Man Utd vs Arsenal game with a smart finish for The Gunners.
Didier Drogba (ivory
Coast) settled the latest instalment of the Chelsea vs Liverpool soap opera with a perfect turn and left footed rocket (and Michael Ballack added another plot twist when he decided the only way to deal with Mohamed Sissoko (Mali) was to stamp on him.)
To round out the weekend nicely, Lomana Tresor LuaLua (Congo) scored the only goal in Portsmouth's 1-0 win over Charlton, putting his side top of the table.
